What is fibre internet?+
Fibre internet refers to an internet connection that utilises fibre-optic cables to transmit data at incredibly high speeds. It offers faster and more reliable internet compared to traditional copper-based connections like DSL or cable.
How does fibre internet work?+
Fibre internet works by transmitting data using pulses of light through thin strands of glass or plastic fibres. These fibres carry the data over long distances with minimal loss, resulting in faster internet speeds and higher bandwidth capabilities.
What are the benefits of fibre internet for residential use?+
Fibre internet offers several benefits for residential users, including high-speed connections for seamless streaming, gaming, and downloads; reduced latency for smoother real-time applications; and reliable service that is less prone to interference from weather conditions.
Is fibre internet available in my area?+
Fibre availability depends on your location. Our fibre network is always expanding, but coverage may still be limited in some regions. Use our coverage checker to determine if fibre is available at your address.
How do I get fibre internet installed at my residence?+
Check your area coverage, choose a package and ISP that suit your needs, schedule installation for a time that works for you, and get activated once your chosen internet service provider connects you.
Can I use my existing Wi-Fi router with fibre internet?+
Unfortunately not. Fibre optic cables transmit data at incredibly high speeds and require special Optical Network Terminal (ONT) routers which are equipped for this. Zoom Fibre will need to install a new router at your residence when you sign up.
Is fibre internet affected by power outages?+
Fibre optic cables transmit data using light signals, so the network itself is not affected by power outages. However, without electricity in your home, your fibre router will not have power and therefore be unable to provide an internet connection.
What should I do if I experience issues with my fibre internet connection?+
If you encounter connectivity problems, it's best to contact your chosen internet service provider. You can also contact Zoom Fibre for network-related assistance.
